That's ridiculous... That's Summit Track...

It's hard to ask for a better end to the season: boys and girls both holding the 5A state championship trophies, an accomplishment only a few programs in history can boast. Saturday, May, 21 at the historic Hayward field, a season of hard work finally paid off as the two state championship title goal was reached.

The girl's performance total of 112.5 points broke the Oregon large-school record at the state meet by half a point. They bested second place finisher Sandy  by more than 50 points.

For the boys, it was a fight until the final moments. Going into the last event, they were tied with Marshfield for first place. A third place finish in the 1600m relay (one place ahead of Marshfield), gave the boys team the gold, edging out Marshfield by just one point.

Congratulations to athletes and coaches, for running, throwing and jumping with your heart, for training your mind and body, for setting and conquering goals. The journey was great, but not over yet...

The Three Step Process

  1.  Win IMC Championships... Check
  2. Win Special District 1 State Qualifier... Check
  3. State... Yet to come
The Bulletin said it best, "breaking records is one of the things the Summit track and field program does best." After our most recent meet, 32 athletes are heading to state. Storm boys and girls both came away with first place finishes from the district qualifying meet.

Equally as moving as the performances is the growth and unity gained by the team. Other competitors watched in awe as the Storm conducted their team warm-up: one lap around the track followed by a time of prayer and inspiration at the center of the field. Attendees of Saturday morning's breakfast kicked off the day with speeches from our seniors. From stories of persevering through failure and adversity to moments of laughter, it's their new found sentiments of success that will carry the team into our state meet.

Come support our state competitors this weekend at Hayward Field.
